When do you pay back your Student loan

You need to pay back Tuition Fee Loans and Maintenance Loans, but not other student finance, for example grants and bursaries. You still have to repay your student loan if you leave your course early.

Plan 1 is for:

  • English and Welsh students who started before 1 September 2012
  • all Scottish and Northern Irish students

You start repaying when you earn over £17,775. This amount changes on 6 April every year.

Plan 2 is for:

English and Welsh students who started on or after 1 September 2012.

You start repaying when you earn over £21,000.

 What is a personal statement

A personal statement is an extended essay about yourself and a key part of your Ucas application.

While many candidates may apply with the same grades as you, they aren’t you as a person, with your passions, experiences and thoughts. You need to stand out as a real person to an admissions tutor, as opposed to one of the many applicant numbers that will pass before their eyes!

I'm I Eligible for Student Finance

Whether you qualify for student finance depends on:

  • your university or college
  • your course
  • if you’ve studied a higher education course before
  • your age
  • your nationality or residency status
