Beating the January Blues

The month of January is never easy. Between the cold weather and post-holiday gloom, it can be incredibly difficult to keep yourself on track.

For students, these ‘January Blues’ can make looming deadlines and brand new courses feel impossible to manage. In order to help, we’ve compiled a list of some of the easiest ways to keep yourself happy, healthy, and energetic during the dreary winter months.

1. Keep Yourself Active

When the weather outside is freezing cold it can be hard enough to get yourself out of bed, much less go for a run. Nevertheless, exercise is one of the easiest ways to keep sluggishness at bay and release much-needed endorphins.

2. Get Some Fresh Air

Shorter days and the lack of sunlight that comes with them can have a damaging effect on a person’s mood and energy levels. Going for a short walk in between classes is a simple way to fit some time outdoors into your daily routine.

3. Crack Open a Fresh Diary

After weeks of celebration and lots of time away from campus, it can be hard to jump back in and remember all of your upcoming deadlines. To save yourself the struggle, make sure you get a fresh diary to keep yourself on track in the new year.

4. Create Study Groups

With remote learning still being the norm at many universities, opportunities to meet your course-mates can be few and far between. Creating study groups can be a great way to hold yourself accountable in your studies, while simultaneously making new friends.

5. Make Time to Have Fun

One of best things that you can do for your mental health and productivity, is to ensure you’re finding time to unwind! Whether it be grabbing a drink with friends, going to the cinema, or doing something creative, make sure you’re allowing yourself to have fun.
